Back to the Library
When I look back, I am so impressed again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today, trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by reading, just as I did when I was young.~ Maya Angelou ~
My son's piano teacher has a piece of software called "The Amazing Slow Down Machine". When you play a tune using this software, you can slow the music down so that individual notes can be heard. Wouldn't it be great to thread time through that machine? Time -- my little boy is fifteen years old, entering tenth grade, and thinking about what he might study in college. My daughter of thirteen looks and acts like a young woman -- STOP -- I need an amazing slow down machine.
But wait! I have the opportunity to enjoy those childhood years over and over again as I work and play with your children. Perhaps I've found that amazing slow down machine in this wonderful profession called teaching. My wish for the 2005-06 school year is that the minutes, hours, and days unfold at a leisurely pace.
This year the library will host several new activities --
a school post office and a school newspaper. Our listening center will be open for business. Our third graders will find out what "blogging", "podcasting", and "vlogging" are all about. And of course there will be books, storytelling, reader's theater, poetry, and research -- all at a pace that allows us to experience the joy!
This summer all books were bar coded -- automation here we come!
Stop by and say hello. You are always welcome!
