Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to the May~June 2008 Grandview Library Newsletter.

Author Visits
This spring, we were fortunate to enjoy visits from three award-winning authors - Angelo DeCesare, Alan Lewis and Mona Kirby. They are passionate about their work and stories and in the video clips to the left, you will have the opportunity to enjoy snippets of the presentations your children attended.

Kamishibai Storytelling

I am delighted to share samples of Kamishibai Storytelling written by Mrs. DeMaggio's class. The students wrote and illustrated stories in their classrooms and entered them into the Kamishibai Storytelling Project Organizer. Then we scanned the illustrations and recorded (podcasted) the stories. Click here to enjoy more of the stories which showcased in the Grandview Newspaper.

Jumping Rope

Rene Bibaud, a five-time jump rope world champion, visited Grandview to share her amazing talent with our students and staff. Ms. Bibaud worked with the children teaching them jump roping techniques and the most important lessons of all -- work hard and never give up. Watch Ms Bibaud in her Cirque de Soleil performance -- she is the red head dressed in red.

Summer Suitcase Journal
This is our second year to share our adventures in the Summer Suitcase Journal. Several children from our 2nd and 3rd grades have signed up to use this project organizer over their summer vacations. I will share my summer adventures as well. Students have the option to share their entries or keep them private. If a student asks to share, I will edit and post the entry to the right of the suitcase.

Road to the White House
The students are excited about the outcome of the primaries. We will continue our journey with the two presidential candidates in the fall.

Have a wonderful summer and keep reading!

Warmly,

Mrs. Chauncey
