Dear Parents,

Welcome to the May-June Grandview Library Newsletter.

Well, the end of year snuck up on us again. We are all working to make the next few weeks as productive as possible -- but the anticipation of lazy-days, play-days, wake-up-late-days, sit-on-the-beach-days, out-till-dusk-summer-days is upon us.

Forgive me for shouting, but I just can't help myself.

PLEASE READ THIS SUMMER!

Now I feel better -- read to your child; have your child read to you. Visit the library once a week. Let your children browse in Barnes & Noble while you stand close by enjoying a yummy mocha frappuccino. Buy a couple of paperbacks!

I will write in Mrs. Chauncey's blog over the summer -- so visit now and then.

Our end-of-the-year reading is a bit lighter. We've said goodbye to whales, sea turtles, and chimpanzees. I've given in to the pressure -- the New York Times Bestseller - Walter the Farting Dog - has been shared. Please forgive me, I won't read any of the sequels.

Our 3rd graders have completed their "writing self portraits" which are based on the book, The Important Thing. Their pictures and writings are hanging in the library -- so take a moment to stop in and enjoy them before the school year slips away.

The 2nd graders have matured as readers and storytellers. They have had a good deal of experience with our notebook computers so we'll hit-the-ground running in September.

The 1st graders are reading more fluently. They are beginning to understand more sophisticated story lines and subtle humor.

And the Kindergarteners are no longer the babies I met in September. Hooray for Kindergarten teachers!

Warmly,
Mrs. Chauncey
