Back to the Library

April is National Poetry Month

Pick up a book of children's poetry at your library and add poetry to your nightly read-alouds. Why should your children have all the fun? Visit Poets.org and let someone read to you.

Just for fun, I'll read one of my favorites ...

Dear Parents,

Your children are taking beautiful, new books out of the library. Please remind them to treat all books gently. I jokingly tell them not to use their books as placemats. Make sure that your child places his book in his backpack the evening before his library day. I would like every child to sign out a new book each week. If your children finish their books before their next library day, they may exchange them for new books during recess.

The third graders are blogging. Some children have their own blogs and some are still working in our communal blogging sandbox. Once a child has written five substantive entries, he will get his own blog. I monitor blogging closely. The children are respectful of the privilege and they are following the rules.

Second and third graders are in the midst of new research units. The second graders are researching sea turtles and the third graders are learning about chimpanzees.

I am working on an ambitious, special project with the third graders. The project is based on the book, The Important Book. This project is gift I am giving myself -- I will miss your children. I will also share the final product with your child's fourth grade librarian. You can take a look at the project here.

The first graders completed their whale research unit -- within the next week or so they will be sharing their whale books with you. Please take a moment to sit and read their books and enjoy their illustrations. I am so proud of your children.

Enjoy the great weather. Turn off the TV, put away the video games, and tell your little guys to run around outside. Spring is here!

As always, feel free to contact me if you have questions or thoughts about the library program here at Grandview.

Warmly,
Mrs. Chauncey
