Two projects completed in December are highlighted in the Grandview Newspaper -- I've pulled them out so you can enjoy them here.

After reading the book, That's Good, That's Bad, children wrote their own "Good/Bad" stories. Our podcast features the work of Mrs. Vicker's class.

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the January 2007 Grandview Library Newsletter. Happy New Year to all, and if you are wondering what happened to the December Newsletter, so am I. In fact, I'm wondering what happened to December.

Last night I designed a "library friendly" version of the Digital Journal I'd programmed over the summer. The library version has only four buttons - Preview, Edit, Save, and New Entry. If you would like to try it out, send me an email and I'll add your name and a password! Tell me who your child's teacher is, and you will be placed in that class roster. I'll send you a link to a little training video tutorial to get you started.

The 3rd graders will use the Digital Journal to work on Library Research Projects. Next week, students will develop a list of topics they might wish to research. From this list, they'll select one topic.

I spent the morning in the Grandview Library preparing and shelving another eighty books -- part of the $20,000 literacy book grant. I arrived at 8:00 a.m. and enjoyed my cup of Dunkin' Doughnuts French Vanilla as I looked at the new pile of books waiting to be prepared for the shelves. This is a job that requires a great deal of self-discipline because I find myself thumbing through, reading a page here, a page there, and "wasting" time. This job should be done by someone who doesn't like books. I left at noon -- mission accomplished. Click to see books that have been added to our collection since August 2006.

Please feel free to visit the library and sign-out a book of your choice to read with your child!

Warmly,
Mrs. Chauncey
