Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome to the April 2008 Grandview Library Newsletter.

Dragon Tales
Third graders are finishing up their Dragon Tales. See our Dragon Project Organizer. I've included a sample to the left -- use the controls to watch and listen. We'll be publishing many more in the Grandview Newspaper over the next two weeks. If you visit Grandview, take a look at our Dragon Tales Bulletin Board. We have booklets in the library for your reading pleasure!


Author Night
This year, Author night focused on the work of our students. Ms. Polanco asked if I would
Digitize Samples of Classroom Published Pieces for kindergarten through 3rd grades. Click the link to listen to the children reading their works. Parents viewed the presentation while eating a yummy dinner. After dinner they visited classrooms to read their children's books.

Research Project
The second and third graders have begun working on their self-selected Research Projects. They are identifying six topics of interest and selecting one for further study. See our new Research Student Choice Project Organizer and ask your child to explain the process.

Kamishibai Storytelling
The Kindergarten and 1st grades are listening to Kamishibai stories.The 1st grade classes will have an opportunity to write a simple story of their own. The children were asked to bring in an empty cereal box if they would like to make a Kamishibai stage for their stories.


Owney the Mail Pouch Pooch

Author Mona Kirby will visit the 2nd and 3rd grades on June 3rd to share her book, Owney the Mail Pouch Pooch. The book is a School Library Journal starred selection. "Readers will be captivated by Owney's journey from hungry and homeless to beloved guardian of the mail trains...." (School Library Journal).

Road to the White House
We continue to track the primary elections!
